PPIIA

Phnom Penh International Institute of the Arts (PPIIA) is an accredited school of arts serving Cambodian students from preschool throught college. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to graduate studies and a career in music, dance, and fine arts. PPIIA offers great services with 18 practice rooms, 52 pianos, 2 large ensemble rooms, library, a ballet studio, a painting studio, a reception area and a concert hall that holds up to 240 people. The purpose of PPIIA at first was to introduce lots of variety of arts to Cambodians. President said, “In the 14th century, Cambodia was a hub country of southeast Asia, geared specifically for ethnic Cambodians who originated from the glorious Angkor Wat civilization.” However, professor Guen explained that after Khmer Rouge, too many artists and musicians were killed which dragged Cambodia to lose a big part in their arts. PPIIA is hoping to revive Cambodia’s culture and arts scene in Phnom Penh through arts education. PPIIA provides scholarship systems to those students who show excellent ability in the school exam, and some can have an opportunity to be an exchange student in a university in Korea. However, this exchange program only offers to Cambodian students which means they focus on Cambodian student’s learning ability as the background goal in mind.
