Peace Cafe

Peace cafe is a craft shop that sells both craft and food products. Peace cafe is managed by the NGO called Banteay Prieb. Banteay Prieb was founded in 1991 by the Jesuit Refugee Service but it is presently managed by Jesuit Service Cambodia. In this community, they educate the disabled people to build both their technical skills and the ability of living by themselves. The owner of this shop said “Our school’s main purpose is the welfare of disabled people. Welfare can mean earning money, but not only that, we want them to develop more confidence in their lives through thinking, planning, and doing something all by themselves.” In Banteay Prieb school, they teach wood crafting and textiling. Some who are selected among the graduate students from the school may work in Production where they can create their works based on what they've learned in the school and they can also learn from gaining more experience. In the production, people do not divide their jobs, but individually each creates an entire art piece. It means each person is an artist not a technician. Also, since this community is operated by a Priest’s association, most of the products are related to Catholicism. Some products portray a cross, a dove and a prayer. The main reason why the owner put up Peace cafe is to introduce the students’ works to the city. Since Banteay Prieb school is outside the city, not many people are able to visit the shop inside the community. So, she decided to open Peace cafe. Peace cafe can be a great place to relax with its quiet and cozy atmosphere. In addition to that, they provide great snacks and drinks with an affordable price.
